The last day
''We were up for breakfast at 5:30am with the usual omelettes and conversations about how we slept and how we're feeling. Oh, and who's got an upset stomach. Standard breakfast talk. Tex led the final warm up once breakfast was finished. The Punjabi Bhangra was welcomed and got us all in the mood ready for the last leg.
We wound our way through the beautiful back roads of Sri Lanka, cruising the ups and downs and taking in the sights which included a couple of very cute puppies. The usual suspects shot off: Guy, Nathan and Mike went racing up the hills. I've had it from Mike that he was the comfortable winner and Guy lost. But Mike knows never to let the truth get in the way of a good story so I'd like to hear the real version.
Special shoutout to Petra for managing to maintain a smile as Bill cycled next to her preaching about annuities.
As with life, it wasn't plain sailing all day. Brian and Serangg hit the same pot hole and went flying over their handlebars. They were both shook and grazed up. Seranng came off a bit worse because he wasn't carrying the sort of air bag Brian has. In all seriousness, it was scary behind behind Brian as he went flying and we're glad there were no serious injuries. At this point Colin made the call that enough was enough and we would stop after lunch, much to Guy's disappointment. The rest of the group was all smiles. So Brian, we thank you for that.
We crossed the finish as we started, as a team, with smiles on our faces, supporting each other, with one mission in mind: to raise as much money as possible for The Openwork Foundation.
It's been a fantastic experience with many special people involved, and spending the afternoon sharing a beer, sunsets and stories celebrating our success has rounded off a superb week.
There have been some ups and downs, sore bums, tears and smiles - but what an achievement and we should all be proud!
So all that's left to say is: Sri Lanka 2024, over and out.''
