From professional football to first-class advice: Meet Tyreece Germain-Andrews

08/10/2026

From professional football to First-Class honours and a thriving advice career, Tyreece Germain-Andrews has built a habit of aiming high and continually raising the bar.

Today, Tyreece is a financial adviser at  Cavendish Brooke, helping clients navigate some of life's biggest financial decisions. But his route into the profession was shaped long before his first client meeting.

Growing up around professional football, he witnessed both the opportunities and challenges that financial success can bring. It was an experience that sparked his interest in helping others make smarter financial decisions and build lasting financial security.

"I’ve always understood how important money is in our day-to-day lives, but growing up, I was rarely exposed to how finances could be used to benefit us through long-term planning.

Coming from a professional football background, I saw how people can make a lot of money during their playing careers, but without the right guidance, it can be lost just as quickly, particularly once they retire. That made me want to become someone people could turn to for help, someone who could solve problems and help people achieve their goals."

That ambition ultimately led him into The Openwork Partnership, where he trained, developed and gained the support, exposure and practical experience needed to build a career focused on continuous learning, strong relationships and delivering meaningful outcomes for clients.

Learning the game

Having graduated with a First-Class degree in Economics, Tyreece was looking for an opportunity that would allow him to develop his technical knowledge while gaining exposure to the wider world of financial planning.

Training with Openwork gave him exactly that: exposure to different areas of financial advice, practical insight into how advice firms operate and a strong foundation for his future career.

"Training with Openwork appealed to me because it gave me exposure to different areas of financial advice. It allowed me to understand how holistic financial planning works and gave me a great foundation to build my career."

For Tyreece, one of the biggest benefits of training with Openwork was the breadth of experience it offered. Rather than being confined to a single role or department, he was able to build an understanding of how different parts of the business work together to support advisers and clients.

"That early experience gave me a great foundation for life as a financial adviser. It exposed me to different areas of the business and allowed me to work with people at different levels across The Openwork Partnership.

One of the biggest things that helped me was my experience with Concert Hub. Learning the system inside out gave me confidence to submit cases across mortgage, protection and wealth.

Spending time across different departments at head office also gave me a much clearer understanding of how the Openwork operates and who to go to for different things. That experience has made me more confident and efficient in my role today."

The experience not only developed his technical understanding but also gave him valuable insight into the people, processes and support network that sit behind successful advice businesses.

Building a career step by step

Success rarely happens overnight. Just as elite athletes spend years developing their skills, Tyreece's career has been built through continuous learning and progression.

He joined Cavendish Brooke and worked his way through a number of roles before becoming a holistic financial adviser.

"When I first joined Cavendish Brooke, I started out as a wealth administrator, having previously spent time in Partnership Services at Openwork.

As a wealth administrator, I worked directly with our Managing Director and focused mainly on his clients.

I then became licensed in protection and provided protection advice before eventually moving fully into holistic wealth advice, which is what I continue to do today.

One of the key milestones for me was becoming licensed in wealth and being able to actively advise clients. That was a real turning point and allowed me to progress into the holistic financial planning role I do today."

The drive that helped him succeed on the pitch and in the classroom continues to shape his professional ambitions today.

"I think the sky’s the limit with most things, and ultimately you want to continue developing and try to be the best you possibly can be.

There’s always another challenge to overcome, whether that’s another exam or qualification, and I think having those aspirations can really set you apart.

For me, it is not just about personal development; it is also about providing the highest quality service to my clients. That is what motivates me to keep developing my expertise."

With aspirations of becoming chartered, that commitment to continual improvement shows no signs of slowing down.

Helping clients achieve their goals

Ask Tyreece what he enjoys most about being a financial adviser and his answer isn't about products, markets or qualifications. It's about people.

"Ultimately, it’s about helping people achieve their goals over the short, medium and long term.

Helping people fulfil their goals and realise their potential is incredibly rewarding. Seeing clients achieve what they want to achieve and knowing that you’ve played a part in that makes me happy as well."

Whether he is working with individuals, families or professionals within the sports industry, he believes successful advice is built on trust, honesty and consistency.

"I think honesty is everything. Clients value clear, straightforward advice because it helps them make better decisions.

For me, it’s about being unbiased and acting in their best interests and then delivering on what I say I’ll do. That’s how I build trust.

I also try to be myself, be consistent, transparent and curious about what matters to my clients personally."

It's an approach that has helped him support clients through some of life's most important financial decisions.

One case, in particular, stands out.

"One of the most memorable cases for me was helping a client who was extremely stressed and emotional about their financial situation and what retirement might look like for them. Their pension was held in a very inflexible arrangement, and they didn’t believe it was possible to achieve the level of income and flexibility they wanted, while also ensuring their assets could eventually pass to their children in the way they intended.

I was able to help them put a plan in place to provide a reliable retirement income, while also identifying and helping to mitigate a potential inheritance tax issue they hadn’t realised could affect their children in the future. There was a lot of handholding throughout the process and seeing the change in the client once they realised their objectives were achievable was incredibly rewarding."

Playing the long game

Tyreece is passionate about helping clients think beyond immediate financial goals and focus on the bigger picture.

In his experience, one of the most common misunderstandings about financial advice is that many people see it as a one-time event rather than an ongoing journey.

"One of the biggest misconceptions about financial advice is that it's a one-off service, rather than a continuous process that evolves with a client's needs and goals.

A financial plan should develop over the long term and should be more about building a long-term relationship rather than a transactional, one-off relationship.

Life is constantly changing, so your financial plan should change with it. There will be ups and downs, unexpected circumstances and changes in financial situations, which is why having an adviser there for the long term can be so valuable."

That emphasis on consistency perhaps isn't surprising given his sporting background.

"With sport, you go through a lot of ups and downs. Ultimately, in order to achieve what you want to achieve, you’ve got to be consistent, keep going, wake up every day and push on.

I think that’s very similar to financial advice and financial planning. Not every meeting or every situation is going to be a success, but giving up should be one of your last options.

Staying consistent and having a positive mindset are things I’ve learned from my sporting background that are directly transferable to working in financial advice. It helps me guide clients through the ups and downs and keep things on track."

The same mindset shapes the advice he gives to young professionals and athletes who may be more focused on short-term success than long-term financial security.

"Everything you do today has a knock-on effect on where you’ll be in the future. Small habits, whether good or bad, shape the long term.

It’s important to think about where you want to be at a certain point in the future and then work backwards. Ask yourself what you need to start doing today to give yourself the best chance of getting there.

Whether that’s investing small amounts, starting to save or simply being consistent, it’s those small actions and good habits built over time that can make a big difference in the long run."

Still aiming higher

Looking back, Tyreece is proud of how far he has come, from early-career entrant to trusted adviser. But if his story tells us anything, it's that he's always looking ahead to the next challenge.

"One of the achievements I’m most proud of is joining Cavendish Brooke and having the opportunity to develop within a great team, surrounded by knowledgeable people and a strong support network. There have been a number of milestones along the way but seeing myself grow into a more knowledgeable adviser is something I’m particularly proud of. I’m still learning every day but being able to look back and see how much I’ve developed since starting my career is very rewarding."

And for anyone considering a career in financial advice?

"Go for it. Financial advice is a fantastic industry to work in, and there are so many different career paths available. It doesn’t necessarily mean becoming an adviser; there are a number of roles and support roles you can pursue, whether that’s within a firm or a network.

If you have the opportunity to get into the industry, I’d absolutely encourage it. For me, it has been a fantastic way to build knowledge, confidence and relationships.

The exposure was invaluable, having the opportunity to work with people at every level, from support teams and heads of departments to directors and senior leadership.

It can take you down a really great path if you build the right connections and work hard. Make the most of every opportunity, ask questions, build relationships and work hard."

Finally, if he could share one piece of advice with his younger self, it would be this:

"Don’t be afraid to start now. Don’t worry about making mistakes, they are a normal part of learning."
